We are situated in the center of Saskatchewan, Canada, just south of the boreal forest.

Our lodge locations are the sleepy little hamlet of Crystal Springs population less than fifty) and Birch Hills, a small town with about a thousand residents. Both locations are about one and a half hours on paved roads from the Saskatoon International airport, which will be your point of arrival if coming by air.

Crystal Springs and Birch Hills are situated in the west center of our outfitting area, which is approximately 110 miles long (east to west) by 40 miles wide (north to south)

Our licensed outfitting area is in the central flyway for Canada Geese, Snow and Ross Geese, White-fronted Geese. Mallard, pintail, widgeon, gadwall, teal and other ducks not only nest here but migrate through from their nesting sites in the boreal forest. Our area encompasses a rich diversity of landscapes including open farm fields, heavily wooded valleys, hills, and forests. Topography ranges from the Saskatchewan River valley and flat agricultural fields to hills and boreal forest. Myriad lakes, marshes, ponds and scattered bluffs of trees dot the landscape including the legendary duck factory potholes of Saskatchewan. Several excellent marshes and lakes and the South Saskatchewan River are situated within a half hour drive of our base camps, including three Ducks Unlimited marshes.

Grain farming is the predominant activity here, with a few sizeable cattle ranches, many mixed grain and livestock operations, and some specialty operations such as bison and elk farms. Typical crops grown include the barley and peas that the ducks and geese love as well as wheat, canola and alfalfa. Specialty crops such as canary seed, caraway and borage are also grown. Typical farm size ranges from a few hundred acres up to several thousand acres. Individual fields can be less than 40 acres or several hundred acres. The majority of these fields are generally harvested by late September with the standing stubble and remnants of grain providing quality fare for the birds and excellent hunting opportunities for us.

In addition to hunting opportunities for Canada Geese, Snow geese, Ross geese, Specs, Mallard ducks and many other duck species there are grouse, partridge, whitetail deer and mule deer in the area as well as moose, elk and black bear. You may see fur bearing animals such as coyote, fox, beaver, muskrat and mink. Small but elusive populations of timber wolf and even the occasional cougar also exist.

Typically during our fall bird hunting season the weather can vary from dry, warm and sunny with temperatures up to +25 C down to chilly wet weather with mornings that can be a few degrees below freezing.
